PE & Sport Grant
The Department for Education has awarded a PE & Sports grant again to schools this year. Schools with at least 17 primary age pupils will receive £16,000 plus £10 per eligible pupil for the current year.
Purpose of funding
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE. 
Benenden Church of England Primary School employ a specialist PE teacher one day a week to teach PE throughout the school. The teacher, Maria Mileham also runs an after school club and trains teams and squads for competitions. Other sports clubs are run after school by other members of staff.
On top of the Kent School Games festivals and competitions, Mrs Mileham also enters children for competitons at Independent and secondary schools. Where appropriate she has also sent children to county trials in football, cross country and Sportshall Athletics.
In addition, we pay to be part of the Tunbridge Wells School Sports partnership exit package; this gives us support with schemes of work and assessment as well as access to staff training.
The staff at our school have been delighted with the support that the partnership has given us so far. Teachers have stated that they feel more secure about delivering PE lessons because they use strategies that they have observed Mrs Mileham and TWSSP staff using. They feel more confident about developing the children's skills in their own lessons, using advice from Mrs Mileham each week.
