Friday 5 June 2026 Cuckoos - Term 6 Week 1 WOW! What a busy first week back! This week we've been to forest school, planted seeds and used magnifying glasses to look at roots in Science, and taken part in Sports day, picnic lunch and open afternoon - So many fun activities to start our final term in Year 1!

Tuesday 2 June 2026 Cuckoos - Term 6 Forest School As always, Cuckoos had an incredible day at Forest School - we slid down mud slides, organised and ran mud kitchens/shops, built dens and had a great time playing with our friends!

Friday 15 May 2026 Cuckoos - Term 5 Week 4 Cuckoos are continuing to blow us away with their incredible commitment towards their learning - they are coping fantastically with increased whole class activities and are beginning to demonstrate how ready they are for Year 2 (and we still have another term to go!). We couldn't be prouder of how hard every child is working and the positive attitude they all show towards their learning! This week has consisted of lots of active phonics games, with the real and nonsense words relay being a firm favourite! In Computing, they enjoyed exploring Scratch Jr and can now join command blocks, change the background and add and delete sprites. They LOVED learning about what London was like during 1666 in our History lesson this week and many Cuckoos continued this learning during their independent learning time, sitting together to explore a book all about the Great Fire. In Science they explored all the different plants in our local area - they found so many different ones and will be researchi

Friday 8 May 2026 Cuckoos - Term 5 Week 3 This week was another busy one for Cuckoos, despite being a short one! To start off the week, in RE they took part in lots of different activities related to their learning about the Easter story and how some Christians celebrate Holy Week, including: creating palm crosses, designing Easter eggs, creating crosses using paint and masking tape (they chose the colours based on how the Easter story makes them feel), making mud hot cross buns, and decorating a cross with bright colours. In PE they continued their learning in athletics and preparation for Sports day. Finally, we ended the week by taking our maths learning outdoors - we explored subtraction by finding the difference, using ourselves and our playground equipment.

Friday 1 May 2026 Cuckoos - Term 5 Week 2 As always, Cuckoos have been very busy and working hard! The highlight of this week was definitely our visit to Drusillas - we had a fantastic day exploring the animals and enjoyed our educational workshop all about birds, fish, mammals, amphibians and reptiles (we even got to stroke a snake and a rat)!

Friday 24 April 2026 Cuckoos - Term 5 Week 1 Cuckoos jumped straight back into their learning this week, starting the term as they mean to go on! In phonics they used chalk to cover the playground in u_e words. In PE they began preparing for Sports day as part of their athletics unit (they're already doing very well!). In DT they began creating their model animal enclosures. And in Maths they enjoyed using counters to explore addition within 20 (using known number bonds) and finding as many number bonds to 20 as they could.

Friday 3 April 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Week 6 Despite only being 3 days, our last week of Term 4 was still very busy! Our highlights this week were definitely the pilgrimage (more photos can be found here) and our afternoon in Barn Owls, where we completed some activities linked to the Easter story and had some time exploring the classroom - we played fantastically with Barn Owls and modelled great social skills to them! Friday 27 March 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Week 5 WOW - What another fantastic week to be a Cuckoo! As always, we have been super busy and working incredibly hard. This week has involved: exploring the bee-bots/coding mice and following and giving clear, direct instructions in Computing; becoming choreographers and creating dance sequences in PE, a walk around the village (and a visit to the park) in Geography, a drumming performance, and we all had the pleasure of watching (or taking part!) in the dress rehearsal for the Benenden Showcase!

Friday 20 March 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Week 4 - including Afternoon Tea! Cuckoos had a fantastic start to the week and really enjoyed welcoming lots of their parents into the classroom to do some weaving and play some playground games - we hope they had as much fun as we did! Cuckoos have also made the most of the spring sunshine this week, taking lots of their learning outside and making the most of the space available to them - they sorted and drew number lines to 20in Maths, explored the question 'How do birds build their nests?' in Science, and practised serving in tennis (as well as lots of other learning in the classroom)!

Friday 13 March 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Week 3 This week was quite a quiet week for Cuckoos but they've still been working incredibly hard! Just look at how hard they've been working on their handwriting and spelling in phonics lessons, tennis techniques in PE, and their teamwork and social skills during some of their independent learning time.

Wednesday 11 March 2026 Making Paper! This week we are looking at ‘I wonder… how a letter travels?' So we have decided to have a go at making our very own paper and we are going to be displaying it at the science show.

Wednesday 11 March 2026 A Jolly Postman journey We have been reading the jolly Postman so we embarked on our very own journey. Some of us pretended to be the characters from the story and the rest of us read the story as we followed the postman as he delivered his letters.

Friday 6 March 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Week 2 - including World Book Day 2026! What a fantastic week to be a Cuckoo! This week we had a beautiful, sunny forest school day (please see here for Forest School photos), as well as a seasonal walk to the Glebe field and lots of incredible World Book Day celebrations. On Thursday, we completed a book swap with Firecrests and had lots of World Book Day themed activities to complete during indpenedent learning, including colouring, book hunts (with both pictures and clues) and line tracing to practise our fine motor skills. Look at how wonderful we looked in our costumes and how much fun we had!

Friday 6 March 2026 World Book Day W had great fun celebrating world book day. We dressed up as our favourite book characters as well as taking part in some in class activities. We had a go at hunting down all the book characters Mrs Reed had hidden, we used clues sent by Mrs Brook to work out who the real Wally was and lots of us had a go at making our very own puppet!

Tuesday 3 March 2026 Cuckoos - Term 4 Forest School WOW - what another incredible day we had in the forest! The sun was shining and we thoroughly enjoyed spending the day outside playing with our friends. We climbed trees, splashed in muddy puddles, made mud angels, slid down mud slides and made dens for foxes! What a fantastic day!
